Specialist CBT for OCD and intrusive thoughts
Becky Grace Irwing · BABCP Accredited CBT Therapist
Hi, I’m Becky, a BABCP Accredited CBT Therapist, Registered Mental Health Nurse and EMDR Therapist with around 15 years’ experience working in NHS mental health services and private practice.
I specialise in working with OCD, including experiences that can feel particularly difficult or frightening to talk about, such as moral and scrupulosity OCD, taboo intrusive thoughts, harm and responsibility themes and “just right” experiences.
My approach is formulation-led rather than one-size-fits-all. I aim to understand what’s maintaining the difficulty and recommend a treatment pathway based on your individual needs, rather than simply offering a standard course of sessions.
Alongside OCD, I have particular experience working with eating disorders and disordered eating, trauma and neurodivergent clients.
Appointments are available online and in person at Becky’s Norwich practice, subject to availability and an initial suitability discussion.
Specialist OCD treatment, tailored to you
I believe effective therapy begins with understanding your individual experience, rather than assuming the same approach will work for everyone.
My work with OCD is grounded in specialist Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Depending on your presentation, treatment may involve Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and/or Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT).
I have a particular interest in the ways morality, responsibility, certainty and the fear of being a “bad person” can become entangled in OCD. These experiences can feel deeply personal and difficult to discuss.
I’ve been developing my Good Person Trap framework to explore these patterns and support greater understanding of moral and scrupulosity OCD.
More about my approach to treatment
My approach is formulation-led. This means taking time to understand what is contributing to and maintaining your difficulties before recommending a particular treatment pathway.
For OCD, first-line treatment involves specialist CBT with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and/or Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT), depending on the individual presentation.
I don’t use EMDR as a first-line treatment for OCD. Where appropriate, EMDR may be introduced later to work with trauma or other non-OCD difficulties that are also affecting the person.
My aim is to recommend an approach based on your particular needs and circumstances, rather than offering a standard course of therapy to everyone.

How much do therapy sessions and assessments cost?
